In the documentary YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS, noted film historian, critic and filmmaker Richard Schickel tells the compelling story of perhaps the most influential, culturally aware, and socially responsive of all Hollywood’s major studios, Warner Bros., and the four brothers whose vision, determination and business acumen made their movie company legendary. Narrated by Clint Eastwood, the film uses clips from some of the studio’s greatest and most entertaining movies; archival and new interviews with a host of directors and stars, including Busby Berkeley, Howard Hawks, Raoul Walsh, Alfred Hitchcock, James Cagney, and Martin Scorsese; and comments from some of today’s most distinguished film critics and historians. From the early 1920s, the introduction of sound to films, through the Great Depression, the age of musicals, the gangster era, the war, to the hardships of the post-war years, film clips show how Warner Bros. made films that had a different vision, cultivated the brightest stars, and at their best promoted decent values while entertaining audiences around the world.
